Preschool students are typically between 2-5 years old. The younger they are, the shorter their attention span due to their stage of brain development. They often have an attention span of no more than 10 seconds. Therefore, a play-based learning approach with several activity choices is an ideal solution as a learning environment. It is also important to note that preschool students learn with their whole bodies so that music and rhythmic games can enhance the learning of gross motor skills and mathematical concepts. Gross motor skills develop before fine motor skills. So preschools should not push for writing skills but let the students develop on their own set time. Social learning should be the main emphasis in preschool and kindergarten, nevertheless, there are certain concepts in mathematics and literacy that should be addressed. Examples of such concepts in mathematics are spatial awareness, measuring, classification, patterns, estimating, matching sets and counting. For literacy, such concepts include rhyming, letter recognition, sounding out letters, distinction between vowels and consonants and between upper and lower cases.
